How to Start Your Skincare Routine

Starting a skincare routine is quite overwhelming for us, but some find it really daunting to commit to the right skincare routine.

A lot of questions will come to your mind while starting a skincare routine. For example, where should you start? Which products are suitable for your skin? How should you get started? Are these products worth buying?

Determine Your Skin Type:

You have to figure out your skin type before finding the skincare products for you. Oily, dry, combination, normal and sensitive are the four main skin types. There are various factors that affect your skin type, such as hormonal changes, genetics, stress levels, and seasonal changes. Your skin type is also influenced by the ingredients and formulations of skincare products you use.

Once you’ve identified your skin type, you can start your skincare routine. But before going to the advanced skincare routine, you have to start with the basic skincare routine. Keep your skincare routine simple and basic.

Steps for a Perfect Skincare Regimen:

According to the basic rule of skincare, apply the products according to their texture and consistency. For example, start with the thinnest products, followed by the thickest products.

Here are some steps for a basic skincare routine that can tune up your complexion and keep your skin hydrated:

  • Cleanse your Face:

Washing your face with a cleanser is important for removing germs and dirt off your face. You should use a product that suits your skin type.

If you’re a make-up lover, you should wash your face more thoroughly. Use any make-up remover or makeup oil to remove your make-up. Leave the make-up remover on for several minutes. In this way, make-up comes off easily. After use a cleanser of your choice depending on your skin type.

  • Apply Toner:

There are various toners on the market; for instance, some toners come as exfoliators, retinoids, or contain glycolic acid, so choose based on your needs. After you’ve cleansed your face, apply toner by gently swiping onto the face. If your toner has glycolic acid in it, you should use it at night. Retinoids or exfoliating toners should not be used together.

  • Apply Serum:

You can use serum during the day and the night as well. For your morning routines, vitamin C serum is the best option because it protects your skin from sun exposure and helps with pigmentation.

You can include moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) in your nighttime routine. Moisturizing serums hydrate your skin through the night and make them visibly plumper in the morning.

  • Apply Eye Cream:

You can use an eye cream to moisturize, reduce the appearance of dark circles or to depuff your under-eye area. There are also plenty of eye creams on the market that help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Using an eye cream before the application of moisturizer is the best option.

  • Moisturize your Skin:

Moisturizers are an excellent skincare product to protect your skin from dehydration and faster ageing. A light-weighted moisturizer will your skin barrier from various external aggressors.

  • Apply Sunscreen:

We can’t stress out enough how important it is to use sunscreen. Applying sunscreen is the first line of defense against dangerous sun exposure. As a final step of your skincare routine, make a habit of using sunscreen even if it’s a cloudy winter day. Apply SPF-40 or SPF-50 to shield your skin from sun exposure. If you want to protect your skin from both UVA and UVB radiations, go for broad-spectrum SPF.
